I wrote this in class as a response to the writing prompt “What do you think of death?”

Death is a stranger long awaited, whose arrival remains unknown until seen approaching down the street. Male, female, good, evil, necessary, unneeded, wanted or not, we will not know until the moment comes.

Is she a lover come to beckon us into the sweet embrace of the void?

Is he an enforcer come to punish us for our sins?

A bridegroom come to show his beloved a world, newly created or long forgotten, incompatible with our fallen senses?

Though some fear and some embrace the day, none truly knows the sensibility of the sentiment. Do those who search death out find what they are looking for?

Only time will reveal the mystery.
